As Seen On TV

When I was younger, I used to love TV, even wake up at early parts of the morning (6 AM) to watch cartoons. As well as, try my best to be at home on Monday and Wednesday evenings for prime time sitcom entertainment. There are 3 main reasons the feelings of affection for TV have been replaced with feeling of apathy.
  1. Adverts, especially home shopping style ads.

  2. You can no longer watch something on TV with the whole family in the room. The moral integrity of television programming has decayed to an unbelievable state.

  3. I get all the series sans adverts, which I can watch at my leisure.
For some reason unknown to present me, past me used to watch alot of those Verimark/Glomail home shopping style ads. Past me even memorised a few of them, but I never fell for the silver tongues of those presenters; I had my pride. I have watched so many of those Verimark commercials, I think I could do one of my own. So let me try with my own blog, maybe I could sell it to future readers.

Back to School Special

It seems these days that kids grow up way too fast. Gone are the days when children cry to leave their mum on the first day of school, now they shrug off their mother's hugs and brush off their kisses, and skip off to the big scary world. The cause of this is perhaps children are already accustomed to not seeing their working mums, so going into another strange place without maternal comfort is not that much of a challenge. I wasn't a crier cos my mother was also a working mum, but still i think it's kinda sad to see that loss of innocence in kids.

There is something I have always wondered, and maybe one of my blog visitors will be able to give me the answer. Why is it that kids born after June have to go to school the next year? It doesn't make any sense to me. Hamza told me that he read somewhere that the kids who go to school 'late' (the after June born kids), usually end up doing better, because they are better developed. Being an early-born(April), I was naturally aggrieved by this, but I don't know any way of disproving it. I offered to have kids either side of the year to guinea pig this theory, but Hamza says my survey would be flawed due to my damned superior academic genes.

Sometimes it sucks to be smart ... just kidding :).

Whose Award Is It Anyway?

I have meaning to write a post for a while now, but I can't seem to find the words despite the various ideas, which I seem to be stockpiling up for who knows what. So I decided to write something, and worry about the crappiness/poor content later.

So last year started off poorly (Lotus FM Bangra :(), but it actually turned out to be a good year. I made a few great friends, got an Xbox, bungee jumped, started blogging, got promoted, got a bigger room, stopped smoking ... lots of stuff, those are just the documentable highlights I can think of. They were a few lowlights too, but I rather not document them, I'm not one for openness into my life, if I contradict this sometimes, it is purely accidental, or bursting to tell as R puts it.

Do you remember Whose line is it anyway? Where everything is made up and the points don't matter. Well I'm gonna hand out some awards, and they definitely don't matter, and of course my decisions may (read:will) reflect my bias.

Best Movie: Stardust- if you watched it, you wouldn't wonder why. Beautiful movie.

Best Song: Chevelle - Saferwaters - OK I'm a rock fan and I didn't like (read:hate) Umbrella by Rihanna or Way I Are by Timbaland. Let me just give you one of the songs awesome lyrics, that swayed my decision. 'You say I came from a fish. You mock the place where I exist'. Chevelle's Vena Sera is also my best album of the year, Linkin Park's ma.

Best Game: Bioshock - Some people don't like it, I don't know how that is possible. This game has everything any gamer could possible want (except maybe its a little too easy)

Best TV Series: How I met your mother - It makes me laugh, that counts more than any superhero drama. Heroes' ma. 30 Rock comes in second. I'm also looking forward to Pushing Daisies.

Best Blog: MJs and Joes - OK, Im biased they are both very good friends. Honestly though, most of the blogging fraternity seem to take themselves too seriously most of the time. They may not be the best writers (still up there though) but you are guaranteed entertainment in their writing. My best post probably goes to one of them, I dont have time to search through their blogs for the best one.

And in conclusion (I'm still looking for that post concluder), thanks to all my friends, old and new, for the awesome year that has passed. Hoping for another awesome year ahead.

Till next time in Waseem world.
